can anyone give me details on my jade carving |

Message Hi I have a jade carving that I bought a few months ago. When I first bought it it was covered in hard wearing paint. I have since taken the paint of to discover that underneath it is jade. I have since email a jade specialist who has advised me that it might be ancient nephrite and that the carving looks like a chinese medicine meaning. The thing that baffles me is why would you paint such a beautiful stone???? It has about 6 holes in the carving and some have been blocked up, after doing some research I was wondering if it might be a tomb piece and that it was painted to hide the fact. I have enclosed a before and after photo for you to look at. Can anyone advise me any further on the age, and what the carving means have you seen anything like this before. thanks sheila |
