Detail: det1 “Kota painting is a sub-style painting of Hadoti School (Hadoti school is a part of Rajasthani Painting). Art-loving Raja Unsaid Singh (1771-1820) marked a landmark in the style and subjects of this school. Until then the main subject of the paintings was related to the Krishna-Bhakti tradition. Raja Unsaid had a strong inclination for hunting. The dense forests of Kota abounded with many wild animals like tigers, cheetah, pig, deer and he liked to move all the court to the hunting palace and spend his time there. In the reign of Umaid Singh artists took a keen interest in depicting hunting themes, and the Kota style acquired a great reputation for painting such scenes. “ Detail: det2 |
