Detail: Portrait of the artist Kasumi Bunsho was born 1905 in Minokamo, Gifu Prefecture, and became an monk in 1921. In 1933 he began formal training in the Zen arts at Empuku-ji, a temple in Yawata near Kyoto. In 1949 he became a Zen Master and Abbot of Kaisei-ji in Nishinomiya. From 1990 to 1994 he served as Abbot of Myoshin-ji. Both of his Zen Masters Nantembo (1839-1925) and Deiryu (1895-1954) have influenced his work substantially. Calligraphy: Dragon (ryu) Signed and sealed by the artist; important and interesting to notice: also sealed with the seal of Nantembo, which Bunsho inherited from his master.
