Kasumi Bunsho was born 1905 in Minokamo, Gifu Prefecture, and became an monk in 1921. In 1933 he began formal training in the Zen arts at Empuku-ji, a temple in Yawata near Kyoto. In 1949 he became a Zen Master and Abbot of Kaisei-ji in Nishinomiya. From 1990 to 1994 he served as Abbot of Myoshin-ji. Both of his Zen Masters Nantembo (1839-1925) and Deiryu (1895-1954) have influenced his work substantially.

Calligraphy: Dragon (ryu)

Signed and sealed by the artist; important and interesting to notice: also sealed with the seal of Nantembo, which Bunsho inherited from his master.
