Vajrapani (Sanscrit), Ochirwaan (Mongolian)
Mongolian
9.5 x 8 cm
Painted on Cloth
Mid-19th To Early 20th Century

Vajrapani represents the energy of the Buddhas and therefore stands in an aggressive archer’s stance holding a thunderbolt (vajra) and a noose/lasso to control demonic forces. He is surrounded by flame and stands on a lotus of fire. This representation is particularly finely detailed.
