Exhibiting at Asia Week NY for the 12th year, Carlo Cristi will show a selected group of early paintings (tangka), 13th to 15th century, including a tangka from west Tibet, of rare quality: Sakyamuni Buddha , flanked by Manjushri and Maitreya, is accompanied by tantric deities headed by goddess Lhamo. Fine manuscript illuminations Kashmiri style in West Tibet , 11th-12th century, will be on show. Notable a folio, illuminated with Manjushri and Vajrasattva in lively stance. bronzes, notable a fine nepalese Saraswati, goddess of learning,worshipped by brahmans and buddhist alike, of 12th century with beautiful features, and a standing Buddha , Nepal, 11th century, finely modelled, with serene expression, denoting the inspired work of Newari artists. From the powerful Tibetan empire in Central Asia, 7th-9th century, a complete set of gold cladded saddle fittings embossed with winged horses, dragons, winged lions, kirtimukha, amid scrolls. Central asian silks, of sasanian or sogdian origin, were among the most beautiful textiles during 6th to 10th century . Roundels or pearl roundels ( n. 4) enclosing winged horses, pheasants, ducks or birds, as emblems of royalty, will be on show, including a pair of silk boots, 8th century, with design of antelope in pearl roundel and a rare woolen felt bag, 11th century, decorated with appliqué felt scrolls.
