Detail: Connoisseur Contemporary is proud to be representing and holding the first ever solo exhibition of Zhang Fazhi in Hong Kong. Prior to this, Zhang has already been exhibiting extensively in various countries, in important museums in China and is one of the few Chinese artists to be shown in prestigious art fairs such as Art Basel in Switzerland and ARCO in Spain.
For this exhibition, Zhang Fazhi has created a new collection of mainly large-scale works that will be shown for the first time. Common threads of youth, hope and optimism run through these works and his youths are portrayed with their characteristic red scarves. This time however, Zhang has scaled down on the political undertones and his work has become more intriguing and surprising than ever. Carrying an element of surrealism, the scenes range from depictions of warped perceptions of beauty to those reminiscent of childhood and fantasy.
