Detail: Gallery Maya is proud to present “At the Edge” an exhibition of leading Indian ontemporary Artists – Probhir Gupta, Jagannath Panda, N S Pushpamalla, Mithu Sen, T V Santosh and Hema Upadyay.
The show combines works on canvas, mixed media, film and photography from important Indian artists with different regional sensibilities and diverse cultural and family backgrounds, This selection of works was carefully brought together to create an evocative tableau of the changing contemporary realities of India and exemplifies the significance of contemporary Indian art today.
The artists express their commentary in diverse mediums and styles bringing to life the extreme complexities and paradoxes of Indian contemporary life – the double edged conditions of modernity – the collision of man and technology, modern shiny-high rises and the glamour of Bollywood within the backdrop of pervasive depravity, spirituality and the ever-present threat of terrorism.
Gallery Maya, working with the highly respected curator Ina Puri, has selected eight works from these artists, which provide a glimpse into the exciting and leading edge of Contemporary Art from India. This prominent group of artists are already being shown and collected by Museums all the over the world as well as having strong representation in important private collections.
