Following the record-breaking sale of “The Mei Yun Tang Collection of Paintings by Chang Dai-chien” in 2011, we are honored to be entrusted with a further 25 works from this important collection.
Titled “A Master’s Secrets Unveiled”, this sale will feature a number of works included in the seminal publication Chinese Paintings with the Original Paintings & Discourses on Chinese Art By Professor Chang Dai-chien. Highlights of the sale include carefully selected works that demonstrate Zhang’s mastery of diverse subjects such as portraiture, landscapes, flowers and birds. Most of these works were either created for the book to demonstrate Zhang’s techniques, or selected from the Mei Yun Tang collection as corresponding illustrations.
Published in 1961 by the founder of the Mei Yun Tang Collection, Mr. Kao Ling-mei, with meticulous attention to printing and design, this authoritative book is hailed by academics as the definitive testimony of Zhang’s virtuosity and is essential to understanding Zhang’s artistic achievement. Moreover, it celebrates the unique relationship between the artist and Mr. Kao, and stands as the single most systematic exposition of the artist’s techniques and theories.
