Detail: The exhibition includes two-and three-dimensional work by some of the most distinguished Japanese artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as by artists influenced by Japanese aesthetics and subjects. Featured are a rare album of hand-colored albumen photographs from the studio of the renowned Kimbei Kusakabe (1841 - 1934); two woodcuts by master printer Utagawa (Andô) Hiroshige (1797 - 1858); and a ceramic bottle by the influential Shoji Hamada (1894 - 1978).

It also includes work by Narazaki Eisho (known as Fuyo), Léonard-Tsuguharu Foujita, Un'ichi Hiratsuka, Masuo Ikeda, Kyohei Inukai, Tokushi Katsuhira, Utagawa Kunisaga I (known as Toyokuni III), Tetsuya Noda, Chikuso Sôun, Kuichi Uchida, Mokuchu Yoshijuro Urushibara, Kenji Ushiku, Sadao Watanabe, Kazuo Yamaguchi, Tomoe Yokoi, Hiroshi Yoshida, Toshi Yoshida, Georges Ferdinand Bigot, Helen Hyde, and B. J. O. Nordfeldt; and several works of decorative arts, including lacquerware boxes, a bronze mirror, a porcelain bowl, and three ivory Netsuke figures.
