Detail: NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of world-famous Chinese fingerprint artist Zhang Baohua. The exhibition, Brushless: The Finger and Palm Paintings of Master Zhang Baohua, opens on October 16, 2014 and continues until October 30, 2014. The opening reception takes place on the evening of October 16, at 6-8pm with a live performance and speech by the artist. Entrance is free and all are warmly welcomed to attend.

About the Artist

Though he has always been interested in art, Zhang Baohua was first inspired to create his revolutionary painting style in 1989 after observing his three dogs playing outside. "Each part of the dog is mostly oval-shaped," he observed, "so why can't I use my fingerprint to paint them?" Impossible to duplicate, this technique is concise, elegant, plain and sincere, utilizing just the fingers and palm. Nicknamed in China the "dog dealer," Baohua is inspired by the loyal nature of dogs, encouraging viewers to contemplate their own loyalty, whether to country, friends, family, or love. His portfolio also includes flowers, landscapes, portraits, and other animals.

Zhang Baohua’s works have been publicized in over 900 newspapers, magazines, and television broadcasts around the world. He has toured the world as part of the Shandong Chinese Culture Promotion Society, visiting over 20 countries. Today, Baohua is a tenured professor of the China International Calligraphy and Painting Institute. His work is hung in a number of museums, including the Xinhua Painting and Calligraphy House.
