South Korean artist HoJung Jun Featured in New York City Art Show

Agora Gallery
530 West 25th St, Chelsea,
New York, New York, USA
Apr 24, 2015 To May 14, 2015

Detail: NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Seoul-born artist HoJung Jun in The Kaleidoscope of the Mind.

HoJung Jun describes her loose, spirited painting style as "free from time and space." Jun works in extremely light, watery acrylic that butterfly kisses the canvas. Though the paint is thinned and very flexible, Jun maintains steady control over it to utilize an impressive array of pattern-making techniques. In some pieces, she orders her colors in meticulous rows of dots and dashes. In others, she allows the paint to drip and pool, blending shades and leaving washes all across the painting.

Because Jun's work is non-representational, it can easily fit into different eras. However, it is the lightness of the work - the dreamy and variable palette, the use of airy white space, and the evident delight Jun takes in letting her medium run wild - that truly makes it liberated from time, space, and any restrictions of one artistic style.

Jun was born in Seoul, South Korea and studied art in Italy, South Korea, and Chicago, the city she calls home today. She has exhibited across the United States.

About the Exhibition

Color & Transformation in Agora Gallery

Themes of color and transformation run deep through the Kaleidoscope of the Mind, an exhibition of extraordinary dimensionality at Agora Gallery this season. Ranging from abstract sculpture to realistic figurative paintings, the works in this exhibition nod to reality before deviating onto an unfamiliar path of inspiration and fantasy. Some artists use vivid color and complex patterns and others pair figures and subjects against atmospheric and conceptual backdrops. As the viewer walks from piece to piece, they fall deeper into the rabbit hole.
