Exhibition Public - USA & Canada

Bruneian Contemporary Artist Emma SzeYun Lo to Exhibit in NYC

Agora Gallery
530 West 25th St, Chelsea,
New York, New York, USA
Oct 09, 2015 To Oct 29, 2015

Detail: NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Brunei-born Vancouver-based artist Emma SzeYun Lo in Beyond Borders: an Exhibition of Fine Art from Canada.

The work of artist Emma SzeYun Lo bridges the divides between East and West, and the classical and modern. Trained in traditional Chinese watercolor painting since the age of eleven, Lo expands the principles and compositional language of Oriental watercolor while updating it with the application of new mediums and techniques. By experimenting with acrylic, pastel, ink, and digital art boards, Lo creates layered pieces that reveal their secrets gradually. Various elements are "hidden" in each piece, only revealing themselves in a particular light or at a certain angle, so that every viewing is a new experience. In this way, Lo emulates her inspirations Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, who experimented with perception, perspective, and vision in their own works.

A resident of Vancouver, Lo is one of the youngest Lingnan (traditional Oriental watercolor) artists in British Columbia. She is highly aware and concerned for the current cultural loss among younger generations of Asian Canadians, and has used her online presence to continue to reach out to modern and future audiences.
