TWO FEMALE MUSICIANS |
China Sui dynasty (581-618) Height each 18,5cm. Ceramic Off-white shard with shiny, straw-yellow crazed glaze. Clothed elegantly in the fashion of the Sui dynasty with long skirts and short jackets, they are playing the pan flute (paixiao) and the mouth organ (sheng). They have their hair done up in a half moon chignon. The figures are showing the craze for imported foreign fashion and music in the Sui and the following Tang dynasty. |
