Qing period (19th century)
Height: 4 inches; Length: 4.25 inches

This robust animal is carved with wrinkled skin and tusks meeting in the center. Standing four square with stocky legs and well padded feet. The elephant supports a rider who appears to be grooming the animal. The stone of a greyish white with darker grey blushes and a soft polish.

Formerly in the private collection of a southern gentleman.
