Wrath of the Gods
80.5 x 61.5 cm

On the hillside to the east of Tangbe is a partly ruined nunnery. One room is maintained as a gonkhang, the shrine where wrathful protective deities are propitiated. The base of one of these deities is shown here.

The lotus pedestal at the top is supported laterally into the walls so the fierce one, trampling humans underfoot, seems to float on writhing snakes and flames and grinning skulls. The structure is of wood with a painted clay plaster surface.
