Yuga Ratna Shakya

Yuga Ratna Shakya, the eldest son of master Gorkha goldsmith Drabya Ratna Shakya was born in Nepal in 1960. Yuga's love for metalwork was etched into his soul at a very young age as he traveled and studied with his father in Hong Kong and Singapore. Though he spent twenty-five years embossing silver and jewelry, Yuga is recognized for his unique and highly skilled works in multiple media. His ability to embrace all of the five Buddhist art forms allows him to step between media to intrigue the viewer, whether in a Paubha painting, a simple drawing, or a repousse silver pot. His remarkable gold-leaf embossed dragons on canvas are among his most recent innovative works.

Yuga has dedicated years of volunteer service restoring the Paubha murals on the walls of the famous twelfth-century Patan Golden Temple. One can read more about his work in Sacred Art Of Nepal, published by the Handicraft Association Of Nepal.
