Rubin Museum of Art
C2006.66.638 (HAR 700060)

All three of these medallions depict goddesses worshiped in the Kathmandu Valley almost a thousand years ago. These objects predate the early Malla kings who formally instituted Hinduism in Nepal in the 13th century. The largest of the medallions offers an intricate depiction of a ten-armed form of Durga. The other two medallions depict goddesses performing various movements and hand gestures.
