Detail: left side A rare saddle carpet featuring two tigers of different colours in roundels, maybe a male and a female. Under the tigers sit the mountains and clouds. The inside border represents a collar of jewels. The outside border is composed of representations of the book and the pencase for knowledge, stylized swastikas with mythical animals entwined within, and several protective other mythological creatures like kirtimukha. Cotton warp and woolen pile, vegetable dyes. The red border has been changed for the original felt was damaged. The back is lined with a thick blue cotton. Tibet Ca 1930 Detail: right side |
