Myrna Myers opened her gallery in Paris 30 years ago in a celadon and blue and white décor, reflecting her specialization then in Chinese ceramics. Soon after, her interests expanded to include archaic jades and Far Eastern silk textiles, marking a very personal choice of works and giving the gallery its atmosphere of a private collector's study.
Thematic exhibitions have included 17th century shipwreck porcelains, tea ceremony ceramics, Buddhist ritual objects, Goan ivories and Central Asian ikats. A major presentation of more than one hundred archaic jades from her personal collection, entitled Radiant Stones, showed the role of mysterious and prized jades in the formative period of Chinese civilization. In 2002, in an exhibition entitled The Language of Adornment, she presented an unusual ensemble of Chinese personal ornaments in jade, crystal, amber and glass, ranging from the Neolithic period to the Qing dynasty. The 2003 exhibition Silks for Thrones and Altars included a striking collection of Chinese costumes and textiles from the 11th through the 18th century including two intact Ming damask robes, two 18th century Twelve Symbol robes and a suit of articulated steel plate armor encased in silk tapestry.
