Subject:Art of Chokin Experts?
Posted By: Bill Sat, Jul 29, 2006 IP: 69.196.114.175

Hello List!

Many thanks for all of the posts. I find this forum extremely interesting and helpful.

Are there any Art of Chokin experts out there?
I am attempting to find the name of my piece and the artist who created it. I know that it is at least 21 years old as that is how long I have had it. The back states that it is an original Chokin Art Collection. It looks like the artist signature goes on a little bit more under the border but I would have to cut the paper on the back of the frame to remove the picture. The actual picture colour is not exact I found it difficult to get a true photo because of the glass glare. If anyone knows the name of the piece or can read the artists name, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill.

I have 3 pieces of this art work that is very similar to yours. I am wondering if you found anything out about your piece. I have been searching the internet but have been unsuccessful. Any information you have will be most appreciative.

Thank you

I'm not a Chokin expert, just a Chokin "junkie". I have collected more than 100 individual pieces of Chokin art over the years and I have that swan design on a 6" fan. I know that one of the most famous of the artists is Yoshinobu Hara, but I don't know if that is one of his designs. My collection includes plates of various sizes and shapes, vases, bells and plaques or framed "pictures". Most of my acquisitions were from eBay in the 1990s and the Hamilton Collection in the 1980s, but I purchased my first framed "pictures" at a local gift shop in 1979. It reminded me of a similar art form I first saw in Tokyo in 1964 when I was in the Navy. It is much more valuable to the owner than what any buyer would want to spend.

I have a "limited edition" plate by Hara... any value?
