Hi Jed,

Yours is a Japanese vase in mixed metal technique. Hard to tell exactly from the pics but it seems that the different colors are from different kinds of gold and silver alloys, applied, patinas, and maybe some use of lacquer too. The box is possibly original to the vase and signed by the artist. Sorry I can't translate! I would guess the age of the vase to be around the 1930s - from the mix of Japanese and Western art deco styles. With pieces like this, if they have quality, age is not so important. Very nice!

One more thing: never clean it or you could mess up the surface patina.

Thank you very much for the reply. I looked into the information given, but still can not find that much out about this vase. I talked with the family member that originaly received it and they said that the box is original. I have included a few more pictures of the vase and also found a signature on the vase itself(picture included). Please let me know any other information about this vase if possible, is it worth anything?

I'm interested in knowing the size of the vase. It is similar to Chokin, but more closely resembles an art form I first saw in a little shop in Tokyo in 1964 when I was in the Navy. I may be interested in adding it to my Chokin art collection.

Been almost a year and was just cleaning and saw this vase again. Any new input.
