Subject:Japanese tea set
Posted By: Richard Mon, Apr 14, 2008 IP: 71.203.118.198

Photo of a tea cup and mark from a set of three cups and one 3 inch tall tea pot with a hollow tubular handle and spout. I think these are called Shudei Kyusu.
I'd like to know when these were made and where? I have seen plain unglazed tea pots like these. Are these tourist items or traditional Japanese?

Hello Richard,

The cup you show is Kutani and my best guess for age is mid-20th century.

I believe these were gift items available in shops both in Japan and other countries around the world.

Cheers,
Michael
