Subject:Need information on Chinese Pitcher purchased in 1968
Posted By: Carl Klempner Sun, May 04, 2008 IP: 71.184.10.114

I need help in dating and understanding this pitcher. I was not able to find any characters that could aid me in discovering more about this item. I am assuming that it is Chinese.
Thanks for the help.

Satsuma style glaze and decoration, possibly made Kyoto area. Probably not before 1920s.

You not say size. Maybe had cover. Spout not look practical. Dribble pouring water?

Good luck,
Cal

Cal,
Thanks for the help.
I tried pouring water from the pitcher. To my surprise it worked perfectly, better than my coffee pot. I also felt that it once had a cover. The size is 7 1/2" high by 4 3/4" in diameter.
The clay seems to be of a poor quality. It also feels like the pitcher was dug out of a trash pile given the dirt that I had to clean off to get a good picture.
