thought to be Chai Ware..

anybody in this field? Pls MSN me...

Ware legendary Chai kiln, Zhou Kingdom, Southern Dynasties, would not have underglaze cobalt-blue inside-out seal mark like yours.

Chai kiln not found. Ware reputed sky-blue fine-crackled glaze.

Yours look like modern molded ware.

That is only say by "China official" and sky-blue is also a bit misleading.

My opinion is that ancient description -"sky-blue" is a bit misleading; Chai ware should be "rainbow" colour.

Definitely not late Zhou Cai Tao 彩陶!

FYI! Glaze 釉 on Tao Qi 陶器(pottery ware) started to surface in China around Warring States and Late Zhou(toward the end of Zhou).

Your item has a mark,"柴" Chai(meaning firewood) at the bottom. It could be a family name or brand name. It is a nice item, but I believe that it is modern.

I got another similar ware marked with "chai" as�@well-- i did find trace of history yet can't confirm its age.

I will investigate more (might go for test if necessary) and inform friends here.

Denying Chai may NOT be a proper way of studying China antique.

I can find the historic signs on those items.

Time will say.

The late zhou lasted only 5,6 years and the unstable empire might not being able to produce.
But the following Song dynasty may do that in various sites.
The China local experts mentioned those colorful glaze porcelain was�@from Song Dynasty.

Where these experts the same people selling the items to you or were recommended by the people selling the items to you?

Chai Rong was the foster son of Guo Wei(posthumous Hou Zhou Tai Zu 951-953 A.D.) Chai Rong(posthumous Hou Zhou Shi Zong 953 - 960 A.D.) only had less than 7 years in his reign before Hou Zhou was destroyed by Zhao Kuang Yin(First Emperor of Song). Chai Kiln or Chai Yao was after his last name. The capital was in Kaifeng, Henan Province, but the Kiln was thought to be around Zhengzhou, Henan Province.

No one had ever seen a real Chai Yao ware, and the kiln has never been found. Basing on contemporary wares, the items on this thread show that they were made from white porcelain. White porcelain wares made of white clay were not found until after Song Dynasty. Therefore these items can not be real Chai Ware just basing on their base material alone. Further than that, the description of Chai Ware on record indicated that Chai Ware had a crackled glaze.

Kiln still not found is not a problem to identify those eggshell porcelain. But I also doubt whether Late Zhou can produce such a huge volume of porcelain under the war situation. But also even Qing emperor qianlong can¡¯t even try to copy one of them-- which means the TOP level of porcelain production during that period.

It actually fits well with crackled glaze as described.

I¡¯ve checked with the microscope device and found some new evidence. Email you more pics later on.
