Subject:Hand Carved cedar chest
Posted By: christine Fri, Oct 23, 2009 IP: 75.92.187.125

I have this hand carved cedar chest, I dont know much about it other than that it was brought to the US in 1964 from Vietnam. It is intracetly carved and no two sids are the same. Every inch of the chest is covered in maticulous detail, it depicts people in a house/palace with rice fiels over looking a city. I am trying to get more information on it...any ideas? Thanks for the help!

You say all there is to say about it except kind of wood which would have to be evaluated in person.

Do not store old textiles in chest, acid in wood make fibers deteriorate.

Consider to be 'used furniture' - massive numbers carved-wood items have come from China, South Asia, SE Asia in past hundred years. Whether someone like the carving is individual taste.

Good luck,
Cal
