Subject:Qing Dynasty

I was on Ebay looking at vases and was wondering about this canadamuseum Top seller with all their Exquisite Famille Rose Chinese Porcelain Vases with six Chinese traditional characters mark (Qing Dynasty Qian Long Period) on the bottom. Looking close at these vases, it appears they are all done by the same artist. The artwork is good, but shouldn't they say made in Canada, 2010, ?

Too much junk and lies on eBay to waste space discussing here. Are eBay forums for such. You disagree with what vendor say, contact them.

Good luck,
Cal

They are selling fakes. Only purchase them if you like them for decorative value. On eBay Top Sellers don't mean much. It simply means they sell over a certain amount value each month.

Hi Patrick and all.

I don't really have a big problem with this seller because he doesn't claim any age. I should have a problem when he sold his "Famille rose vases with a six character Kangxi mark" as of the periode.

regards,

Arjan

Hi Patrick,
Don't be discouraged by the dismissive replies from Arjan and Cal. It is eBayers like them that knowingly turn a blind eye to the activities of these fake sellers that allow them to proliferate.
Canada has become a hot bed of sellers of fake Chinese antiques on eBay, and canadamuseum's current 879 positive feedbacks is testament to this. They have private auctions where bidders' identities are hidden and their listings are under the heading "antiques", which they clearly are not.
Good on you for drawing this to other reader's attention.
Regards
Tony

Dear Patrick and all.

Of course I totally agree that this stuf has nothing to do with antique porcelain but couldn't find any claim for that in the description. Tony wrote that they are listed under "antiques". (I didn't noticed that) and then have a point of course.

Regards,

Arjan

I'd suggest that anyone out there with the appropriate connections alert their local customs and excise tax authorities to what's going on. Many nations permit the importation of bona fide antiques duty-free. By allowing these sellers of brand new reproduction ceramics to list them as antiques, eBay is abetting the wholesale evasion of tariffs. I can't think of any reason not to believe its a criminal act just because eBay's acting the part of a fence in this racket.
