Subject:Japanese Painting on Silk. Need Help wtih Sig, pls.
Posted By: Val Thu, Nov 19, 2009 IP: 99.251.57.63

Hi all! I have this vintage Japanese painting on silk. I was hoping that someone here would be able to read and tell me the name of the artist, or anything else you can teach me about this painting. Thank you in advance for any help, Val.

The kanji at the right read in Japanese "kanbai" or "cherry blossom viewing". The name at the left can be read partially as 'Tamagawa'. The girl is dressed as a Chinese beauty. Hope this helps a bit.

Guy.

this is Chinese rather than Japanese, not old. Title is "Viewing Plum Blossoms", not 100% sure of the painter, though the seal is of the surname Zhang.

Thank you both, guys, although Chinese/Japanese relation of this painting is still unclear to me.
Its hard for me to judge Eastern art, so I was hoping that you can tell me if this work has any artistic value, or if it was done with purely commercial intent.

done with commercial intent, but little or no commercial value I'd say.
