Subject:Blue & White Bowl
Posted By: Janie G Mon, Feb 15, 2010 IP: 86.139.152.214

Hi

I have a blue and white bowl with an oriental back stamp - Chinese? It is, I would guess, new but its very pretty and I like it. Could anyone help with the back stamp. I fully expect it to be the Chinese "Tesco" but would appreciate any information.

Gao Feng (High Peak) in Chinese, but it more likely is Japanese: "Takamine" is a very common name.

Hello Janie,

It's Japanese, apparently 20th century from the laid back look of the pattern. Mark probably should be read as 'Takamine' with the meaning of Tall Peak.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi to all,
The two characters read "Kohou", a name of Mino kiln. Takamine is a family last name, and not commonly used to name a business or a kiln. The bowl is new and commercial quality.
Best Regards,
Emiko
