Subject:Chinese porcelain wine cup.
Posted By: Martyn Fri, Mar 05, 2010 IP: 79.67.202.101

For my education I'd appeciate opinions about the period of this pretty little cup.

It's 4cm (1 1/2") high and 7.2cm (2 7/8") diameter at rim.

Many thanks,
Martyn.

Hi all,

Agree with Toan and maybe we can narrow the dating by: "around 1730" (Yongzheng) because when you search on "Ca Mau, Cau mau wreck or Ca Mau cargo" you will find simular pieces.

Regards,

Arjan

Hello Martyn & Toan,

Toan, you're on the right track with your assessment. Porcelain tea wares with blue & white inner motifs and external iron-based 'Batavian' glaze were among Kangxi-period exports of the late 17th and early 18th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Toan, Arjan and Bill thank you all very much.

Having looked at some of the Ca Mau cargo there are a few very similar pieces with the same style border, so late Kangxi or Yongzheng looks perfect.

Much appreciated... I'll add an in focus image of the central scene for future reference.

Regards,
Martyn.
