This one is made from marbled clay, a technique which involved twisting together 2 different colored clay. This technique originated in the Tang dynasty in Henan province. In the early Song dynasty it became more widely produced. It has spur marks on the bottom for sepration og the green glaze from the klin floor. The lid has a lotus bud handle. The vessel appears to be molded in two pieces before being joined together. Pls check for ridge in the middle of the jar, on the inside. This technique was common in the Song jars. This one dates to the early Northern Song dynasty if it is genuine. A TLS test may be worth doing.

It's an under glaze black paint. The Tang marbled lead glaze ware is so much different from this paint jar with lead zirconate titanate(PZT) glaze.

Look at eBay Item number: 150393325953

TL test is to drill the pottery to get sample for testing, but the cost of testing is + US$ 500.

What is TLS test?

This is not Tang marble lead glaze.

The clay will not change its color after glazing by green glaze, while this jar outside the clay turn black but the unglazed part inside is light brown. The clay design inside and outside do not match each other. This is not by mixing 2 colors clay, this is a simple paint.

I have not had a close look at this item however feel posters should be aware that 3 methods of marble technique were used in china...
1) the most common, a mixing of light and dark clays.
2) A marbling via the glaze
3) A thin layer of marbled clay placed over a standard body colour...
