Subject:Japanese covered container

I would appreciate information about age and translation of the Kanji inscription on the bottom of the container and interior (the characters are of miniature dimensions).

The marks on the right of the base are Kutani,I think the others are a name, the inside will require someone with more knowledge of Japanese than me,Keith.

Hello Michel,

Your Japanese Kutani tea ceremony bowl with cover has what I've seen termed as the 'Great Poets' motif. The bottom mark reads downward on the right as 'Kutani' and has the name of the artist or studio on the left. I've attached a graphic with permutations of the name. The code 'f' stands for feminine names and 'g' for unassigned gender, I think. This information is from the Unicode data base.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi to all,
Kutani tea cup with a lid, with small writings, Japanese poems or Kanshi poems, also known as saiji Kutani, signed signature to base, Kutani Ikko. Porcelain painting outside hand painted by Yokohagi Ikko (1850-1924) and the calligraphy inside of the cup, also signed, by possibly different artist. I could not see well in the picture.
Originally, sold as a pair with one small and one larger, myoto chawan ( married cups )
Best Regards,
Emiko

The chawan measures 3.5" (9 cm.) in height and 2.5" (6.5 cm.) diameter. The inscriptions are minute and visible only with a magnifying glass. I enclose 3 more additional photos of the inscriptions around the clock and will appreciate your deciphering and interpretation of the Kanji text.
Best wishes,
Michel
