Posted By: Richard Breon Mon, Mar 08, 2010 IP: 76.127.16.248

Thank you. I have a large 4 panel screen framed with artist name zodiac symbol and block stamp. Its beautiful but I can not seem to find out much about it. Time frame artist or value.
Thanks everyone for your help.

The only thing I could come up with for a name is "Usen". I'm not very sure of that first character though. And I can't find any listing of artists with that name. And the seal appears to not have printed very well, making it unreadable (for me, anyway). Sorry...

The little I know about screens says that bigger is usually better. In that, originally they performed a practical as well as asthetic function. They were first and foremost room dividers, hence they were rather large. Six or eight feet high being not too unusual, and 6 or 8 panels as well.

Screens being sized down to the dimensions of yours generally indicates a rather modern production and one geared more for a tourist/decorative market. The artist signature might well be simply a "house" name, i.e. an anonymous artist working under a pseudonym for a manufacturer of home decore.

Very pretty all the same...
