I bought this bronze bowl. I was told it was an antique Chinese bowl. It it an antique and what are the characters saying.
Thanks in advance,
George

Your bowl is a censer & bears a Ming dynasty Xuande reign mark.
I`m not competent to judge the age of this but it does appear to have been used.

Thanks Phil. Once you point me in the direction of the period it was made, I researched further and discovered that the mark is spurious. The bronze footing and the thickness is not from the Xuande period.

Your censer is Chinese but the Xuande mark is apochryphal. The underside shows no wear so it is likely to be 19th century or later.

Hi,
although I know nothing of bronzes even I`m aware of the many bronze censers bearing spurious Xuande marks, I thik if Ian is correct & this is a 19thC piece it`s still a nice addition to your collection.
