Subject:Need help identifying painting
Posted By: Brandon Mon, Mar 15, 2010 IP: 76.241.37.23

I recently acquired this painting and it looks to be fairly old. It is not a print; I took the back cover off and it is a stretched painted canvas. Does anyone recognize the artist and know about how old it is?

Thanks in advance.
Brandon

I have received word that this is by a "薰風" from Taipei, Taiwan. Is this familiar to anyone?

Hi Brandon,

Those characters are correct and would read "Xun Feng" {balmy breeze} in Mandarin pinyin. "Feng" (wind) is an obscure Chinese surname but "Xun" (an herb, smooth) isn't. Accordingly I think this probably is a given name or studio/style name of the artist. It looks a lot like tourist art available in Asia during the 1960's and '70's. I'd only add that the characters look a little stiff, as if written by someone who may not be native Chinese.

Best regards,

Bill H.
