Hello all. I'm so happy to find this forum! I hope someone out there can be of some assistance to me. I've purchased this beautifully hand carved statue recently and need help identifying it. I would like to know if this type of Asian art has a specific name or category, who the subject may be (if possible), type of wood, is it Japanese (I assume so since she is holding a lotus blossom), and what the symbol carved into the back of the base means. She is a very large piece measuring 28" tall. It is one solid piece of wood. Thank you for any information you can provide. I was told it was brought to the US after WWII. Of course people will tell you anything. I bought it because of the excellent craftsmanship and overall beauty of the piece, but I do hope it is at least worth what I paid. Thanks so much!
