Subject:Japanese bronze figure
Posted By: Trevor Sat, Mar 20, 2010 IP: 86.154.87.235

I saw this piece for sale the other day at an auction. Guide price was £50-£75. I was intending to bid based on the guide price but it sold at about £1100. I was attracted by the look and for some reason I thought it looked right and maybe was genuine. It was about fifteen inches tall I didn't purchase it as the price was more than I expected and I was unable to read and understand the cartouche/Kanji on the top of the base.

Could anyone indicate whether this piece could have been genuine.

My original question should have been:-

Based on the picture. Does anyone know if this figure is Japanese and from which period. Also is it likely that it could have been a genuine piece.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Regards
Trevor
