Subject:Sogdian silk garments 7th-8thc
Posted By: Julianna Lees Sat, Mar 20, 2010 IP: 90.16.109.162

Heleanor Feltham shows a beautiful 8thc child's coat of Sogdian silk in her article (url below) but does not say where it is from.
An even more stunning 7thc silk riding coat was exhibited in New York in 2007 (url second below.)
Please can someone tell me where one can see such beautiful items in life, how they have survived intact, and what they fetch in auctions?

Any such items on market would be stolen from archaeological sites or museums. If looted 100 years ago, would still be considered patrimony of place of origin (say, modern Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). Such finds from there and from the more easterly part of the Silk Road are in museums in Russia and China.

See article on this web site at link.

Good luck,
Cal
