Subject:Chinese or Korean bowl?
Posted By: dorrbell Mon, Mar 29, 2010 IP: 64.142.87.237 14 centimeters wide, 5 centimeters high. This is the very first piece I bought. Interesting provenance! I bought it at a garage sale, 10 years ago, from an elderly man who told me that he bought it when he was a sailor on the Yangtze River in the late 1930s. I initially thought it was Korean. However I now know that simular wares were also made in China. The colour of the bowl is not as olivene as what I think would be Korean. But I really don't know. I would be very pleased to hear any opinions. Age? Origin? etc. |

Posted By: Alf Tue, Mar 30, 2010 Look korean sanggam celadon bowl to me. The glaze look transfarent and has no jade apprearance. The simple sanggam decoration is late goryeo but it could be copied at late 19 century. I have concern to the appearance of the base. yes, base goryeo celadon look primitive but not as dirty as the base in your bowl. The dirty base like yours usually a feature of korean celadon made during late 19 century. |
