Subject:Information on Chinese Silver Mark Please.
Posted By: Philip Hall Fri, Apr 02, 2010 IP: 81.109.87.68 I have a beautiful silver clasp, marked with the word "Silver" and also with what I believe is Chinese calligraphy. Can anybody translate the symbols please? |

Posted By: Bill H Sat, Apr 03, 2010 I believe the three characters may read left to right as 'yi fu shi' (lit. 'wealth throughout the market' [or city]). The middle character also bears a resemblance to 'gong' (palace) which doesn't make for a very meaningful literal translation, but it also can be an initial scale note (like 'do' in do-re-mi), in which sense the three characters could be construed to translate as 'harmony throughout the market' (or city). |

Posted By: Philip Hall Sun, Apr 04, 2010 Dear Bill, What can I say? Thank you very much indeed for your very quick and comprehensive response! I was so concerned that it was just going to translate as "Made in China" and then you gave me poetry! |
