Subject:What is this Buddha made of?
Posted By: Peter Houle Tue, Apr 06, 2010 IP: 68.161.112.109 Having read the posts on this site, I doubt this Buddha (one of a set of three) is made of jade. Any information or opinion as to material, age, likely place of origin, style, and value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Posted By: LEE Tue, Apr 06, 2010 The color of this buddha is celadon, but it does not fit the color of the type of jade commonly used in earlier dynasties-(e.g Tang) that would fit the severity of the "calcified". Hence it is a fake and probably made from serpentine, glass or celadon nephrite that is treated with harsh acid, and than soaked in brown dye. |
