Hello,

A friend of mine has a few items she'd like to know more about. I know the pictures leave a lot to be desired, but I'm hoping you good people might be able to tell me if any of these items has even a possibility of being valuable. Thanks in advance for your input.

The first one appears to be Bowenite, or another Serpentine, which was dipped in an acid.. modern.

I believe she got this in Shanghai in the 1960s.

To my limited knowledge of 35 years, this stone item was created in this Century. I hope this helps.

Thank you Ernest. Is it the style of the piece that tells you it's modern, or something else?

In recent years one sees more of those acid treated carvings. In this case the stand is supposed to make it look older as well.I hope you did not buy this, unless it is for study purposes.

Thanks again Ernest. I didn't buy the item, I'm trying to find out about it for a friend. So it's not necessarily the style that is wrong, it's the color? The actual color is a bit darker I think. My flash washed it out. I'll see if I can bring it home and get better pictures of it.

How long have the Chinese been making items like this to deceive tourists?

If the seller lies about one item, why believe him with the other two. Just forget it.
