Subject:Chinese or Japanese plate
Posted By: Macheng Fri, Apr 09, 2010 IP: 84.0.249.189

I would guess it is 18/19th century Japan. Do you have a different opinion?

Thanks,

M.

Definitely Japanese style. If the metal straps forming the hanger are of typical width, this would appear to be a substantial charger-size dish on the order of 13 or more inches in diameter. Since it apparently has no spur marks on the base, I'd guess it to be early 20th century at the oldest. As always, you should weigh my opinion on the fact that I'm primarily a collector of Chinese export wares.

Best regards,

Bill H.

I agree with Bill H. ... certainly Japanese. It looks like Nabeshima (just in style). Does it have a normal footrim or is it high ?(and decorated).

Regards,

Arjan
