Subject:Green Quartz Buddha
Posted By: Robin Fuller Tue, May 01, 2012 IP: 184.20.41.83

I am looking for someone who may be able to value this for possible sale. Any help would be appreciated.

This green quartz ("happy" or "laughing") Buddha is known by the Chinese as "Poti" and the Japanese as "Hoti". In the written opinion of a fine arts and jewelry dealer in 1979, it is a Chinese antique, carved with ancient tools in the form of the Ming Dynasty.

Do you have that "written opinion"? You can sue that person, as a)it is not quartz and b) it is very modern.

Dear Ernst,
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I do have a written opinion from the woman, Dorothy M. Waddell, who was a fine arts and jewelry dealer, who sold it to my mother in 1979 for $1000. We have tried to locate her, but are unable. But thank you for your help anyway.

This is the reason that one should check the items, not the "documents"

The material is called Fluorite, and is quite soft.
