Subject:24" diameter Japanese serving platter
Posted By: Joan Derry Sun, Jun 03, 2012 IP: 64.12.116.207

Please help to confirm the identify of this 24" porcelin serving platter. It is my understanding that it is mid-19th century Japanese pottery. It was brought home by an Army soldier returning from the Korean War.

I know no further history of this item. Thank you.

Your link is to query about 11¾" X 9¾" dish not 24" platter which you say both porcelain and pottery, two different ideas.

If you want opinion about 24" platter, best to post photos taken natural light and description, show bottom of piece.

Is it translucent?

Good luck,
Cal

I did try to attach two pictures of the top and bottom of the platter but wasn't successful. These two pictures are located in "My Documents".

Could you please tell me what steps to take to successfully attach it to your site? Also, do I place it in the "Image URL" box?

Yes, my mistake -- it is porcelin with a single glaze from what I understand -- not pottery -- and it is round in shape measuring 24" across.

Thank you.

For images on your computer, use boxes with 'browse' buttons to find photo on your machine and attach to post.

'Image URL' box is for link to image on internet site, such as flickr.

Good luck,
Cal

I tried again to send you the pictures of the platter. After entering the data into the browser it said that the picture was too large. I have not been able to find the way to reduce the size.

Thanks for your patience with me!
Joan

Here are the pictures of the platter.
Not good enough to say anything about the mark(s) or even if it is handpainted or transferprinted. Looks a bit like the ware of Tezuka Kinzai of the early 1900's to me.

Regards,

Arjan

Sorry, I wrote Kinzai I see now but meant Tezuka Kinsei.
