Subject:Asian? bowl
Posted By: Lou. Sun, Jun 10, 2012 IP: 109.156.228.183

Would someone be kind enough to tell me if this is either Chinese or Japanese and give me some idea as to what age it is. It measures 13.5" diameter x 1.5" tall. It has a metal band around the rim which, I think, is part of the old riveted repair job.

Thankyou in advance for any help offered.
Sorry if I've accidently posted this message twice, I've had a spot of trouble uploading the photo's.

Hello Lou,

This is Chinese and I would date it around 1725.

Regards,

Arjan

I am a beginner myself, but that looks awfully like a Kangxi plate that I have, in glaze texture, cobalt colour and painting style. My one also has a crack across it.

Type: Export blue and white
Age: circa 1700
Value not much, probably.

Hello,
about the age i would guess late Kangxi or early Yongzheng.

by the way, this is not a bowl but a dish

best regards

Tati

Thankyou for your replies. I realised that it would have very little value due to the damage. I just wanted to know it's origin & age, I guessed it was fairly old. I rescued it from destruction a while ago so I have a bit of a soft spot for it.

Thanks again,

Lou.
