I received this vase from my grandmother after she passed. It was handed down to my grandmother by one of her mother's friends after her mother passed away. My great grandmother was a missionary in China for 8 years. She passed away in 1976 at age 84. Her story, hand written on a note that accompanied the vase, states that in order for her to offer money and food to a Chinese family, the family insisted on trading something of value. This vase was apparently, dug up from its hiding place (due to frequent rebel raids - according to the letter) and then offered to my great grandmother as trade for enough money to buy a small amount of food for the family. The letter states that the family lived in Chengdu (Chengtu) which is the capital of the Sichuan province in Southwest China.
I do not know how old the vase is but if my great grandmother indeed received it in china, it would have been sometime in the 1920's - 1940's after she finished college in 1913.
I am very interested to find out more about the vase. I have done quite a bit of research online but have not found any similar and and very interested in its age and what value it may hold (apart from the family historical value).
Thank you ahead of time for any help and suggestions sent my way.
Regards!
