once again i call upon this awesome forum for help identifying paintings left to me by grandma. any help is appreciated, info on artist, period, or approximate value would be all great info, thanks in advance

These are signed as being by Zhang Zhiwan (1811-1897), who I think came in first in the national civil service examination in 1847. The inscription dates these to summer 1888, but being unfamiliar with his work I can't say whether these are genuine, or simply works to which the signature and date were later added. they look pretty good from the small pics, the inscription's calligraphy looks quite good.

thank you so much for the reply and his name translation (didnt realize someone had replied as i didnt get an email notification) my biggest dilemma was and still is the name translation therefore unable to utilize the power of google.

I've looked up his past work and couldnt find any that was painted using gold ink on black paper by chance anyone can shed some light on the material being used if any significance? thanks again for your help and this great forum's support in identifying and educating the masses :D

A quick search revealed one instance of a picture associated with him in gold on a dark background, but it's impossible for me to say which if either of yours or this work are genuine.
