No markings at all on the back.
Thanks

from the photos it's hard to be sure whether it's a picture of a seated lohan (my assumption), or the Annunciation. looks like a nice piece though. any chance of clearer photos?

I'll try...with the size constraints it's tough.
Couple of pics at a time. Appears to be a dragon emerging from the clouds.
Thanks

I can't venture a guess as to the content and since there are so many experts on this site I'm a little hesitant in advancing my comment, however I was in the publishing business for 22 years and that looks like a copper letterpress plate, (used for intaglio printing). The first copper plate was produced in the 15th century but this one looks to be 20th century (although it could be 19th and just well kept). The size would be about correct, to, for a page or leaf.

I am not sure what it is, so you are way ahead of me at any rate. Certainly a luohan/rakan with dragon. Was hoping the seal marks might be readable in closeup but I'm not sure what they are yet from the pics posted. This strikes me as Japanese though. If Chinese it is of rather high quality.

I would have said the same thing... But, note the two seals. The radicals or characters do not appear to be in reversed or "flipped" position.

Dave, can you provide a photo of the backside? Thanks.

The back has no marks at all. Completely blank.
Thanks for your interest.

Again, one of my real problems with this forum (although I love all the really great stuff) is my inability to read the various languages. However, this could be the right-reading side of a pair of blind embossing plates. And, again, just a wild guess.

So far, I'm reading the left column as "淨昭" or "凈昭". Please confirm.

I'm getting a feeling that the name of this seal, may be a monk's name.

So far, I'm reading this seal as:

西垣淨昭

Here's another piece for your comparison. I'm sure the translations will be coming soon.
