Subject:Please help identify porcelain bowls.
Posted By: JayC Wed, Apr 24, 2013 IP: 99.140.181.57

Hello!

I have two porcelain bowls that are, primarily, the same. I have no idea how old they are or if they are even Asian. The glazes are a mixture of deep blue, grey-blue and almost a teal. The deep blue is glossy and the teal and grey-blue are rough and nearly matte. There is an orange, rhombus shaped, mark on the bottom of both bowls but that's not a color used in the design. Frankly, the design doesn't look as polished and professional as much of the Asian export porcelains I've seen. The bowls aren't perfectly round, or even symetrical, and the glazes are not perfect and so on. For me that kind of enhances the appeal but also raises the question of where the bowls may have come from. The design, alone, leads me to believe they are Asian but any help would be sincerely appreciated!

Apparently, I didn't include a picture of the complete bowl. The following photos show the outside of the bowl. Again, thank you!

To me the bowls are Asian. More specifically, they are Chinese. The tell-tale sign is the red mark. Many modern Chinese porcelain factories produce otherwise unmarked pieces with red numbers surrounded by either a triangle or a diamond shape.
