Subject:help reading signature and seal
Posted By: Willie Mon, Apr 29, 2013 IP: 71.10.225.48

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone knows or can read this signature/seal combination. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Willie

The signature and first character in the seal is 'an' in Chinese meaning peace - the second means child. If you had been sufficiently gracious to show the whole work as well, we could have been better placed to determine its country of origin and give you a pronunciation more correct for the work.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your response and I do apologize for not including an overall image. I forget that context can be critical when reading signatures and seals. You all are so generous with your information and insights the least I could do is give you the "whole picture". I have included a shot of the painting which looks to me as if it might be an early to mid 1900's Japanese work. It is just one of those images that immediately caught my attention and I'm thinking about bidding on it.
Thanks very much for your help.

Willie

Rat,

I'm sorry for the delayed thanks but I appreciate the feedback. Good to hear I might have had the right idea about this one. Unfortunately I was not able to participate in the auction. So it goes.

Regards,

Willie
